#RestoreOurEarth: Take Part In Earth Day 2021!

Climate Justice

Today is Earth Day!

This year’s Earth Day theme is #RestoreOurEarth—activists, scientists, and leaders around the world are focusing on the best technology and ideas to repair environmental damage.

The past year has been an eye-opener for the environmental community. After COVID-19 became a global pandemic, we slowed down, stayed home, and got a glimpse of a greener world. Carbon emissions went down, less pollution filled our lungs, and we learned some important lessons about our ability to pitch in and act as a global community to solve a global problem.

But as we move into a post-pandemic world, climate change and environmental degradation haven’t gone away. Hence the need to #RestoreOurEarth by effectively managing our natural resources, reducing waste, and ensuring that we can live our lives free from carbon-heavy fossil fuels. We already have the technology to do so; leaders around the globe are paving the way to a more sustainable future.

This Earth Day, let’s celebrate the progress being made—and work harder than ever to make our climate goals a reality.

Keep an Eye On…

  • Business: Over 400 corporations, including Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Walmart, and Unilever, recently signed an open letter to President Biden asking the U.S. to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.
  • Politics: President Biden will host a Leaders’ Climate Summit on Earth Day, where he plans to announce significant emissions goals in line with the above letter.
  • Industry: Exxon Mobil wants to get into the business of carbon capture and storage—but needs the government to put a price on carbon in order to do so.
