Happy Earth Day! Our team at Novel Hand compiled a list of articles, books and other sources to keep you up to date and educated on environmental and climate issues.
Our first item on the list isn’t actually reading material–it’s a global livestream of activists and leaders mobilizing for climate action. Earth Day Live will feature musicians like Jack Johnson and activists like Al Gore speaking about how we can invest in our planet’s future. Check out the full schedule here.
This week, the New York Times introduced a ‘Climate Crash Course’. The series features seven big questions about climate change. For example, it includes a question I’ve been trying to answer: “Is what I do important?” (Spoiler: yes, it is.)
Only because we can’t escape COVID-19, here’s an article from the World Economic Forum exploring how our responses to climate change and the coronavirus are linked. It challenged me to think about public health and inequality from a broader perspective. The WEF also reported on how the global pandemic has shifted global air pollution and emissions.
Another story to keep an eye on: the Environmental Protection Agency has relaxed environmental regulations amidst the pandemic.
Here are a few of Grace’s recent reads about the climate:
- This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate by Naomi Klein
- No One is Too Small to Make a Difference by Greta Thunberg
- The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable by Amitav Ghosh
Novel Hand is actively covering the environment. Here are a few of posts about what we’ve learned:
- Grace wrote about climate refugees.
- I’ve been learning about the zero waste movement.
