Today is Shine a Light on Slavery Day – a day dedicated to raising awareness about modern-day slavery as part of the End It Movement. Read on to learn more about modern-day slavery and human trafficking, and how you can be a part of the solution.
What is the End it Movement?
End It Movement is a coalition of seventeen nonprofits and organizations that are working together to raise awareness about human trafficking and modern slavery. Each of these partners is committed to creating systemic change to bring freedom to the oppressed in the United States and around the world.
The statistics around human trafficking are staggering- estimates of the number of people trapped in this situation range from 27 to 40 million people. Modern-day slavery is a multi-billion dollar industry that overwhelmingly affects women and girls.
How to get involved
The symbol of the End It Movement is a red ‘X’. By drawing a red ‘X’ on your hand today, you can start conversations to raise awareness about modern-day slavery and its prevalence around the globe.
If you want to learn more about this topic, End it Movement’s website has a lot of great resources to learn more about modern-day slavery. I recommend reading through their content and partner resources.
In January, Novel Hand posted about Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Read our post here to learn more about forms of modern-day slavery and human trafficking. I also recommend reading The Locust Effect, which you can learn more about here.
Organizations like International Justice Mission are committed to ending slavery in our lifetime. Be sure to check out their work and the other organizations that are part of the End It Movement!
