Meet Jacqueline!

Hello! I’m Jacqueline, a new contributor to Novel Hand and freelance writer working at the intersection of social impact and sustainability. I graduated from Dickinson College in 2017 with a BA in Environmental Studies, a minor in Sociology, and a Certificate in Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship. After college, I worked in nonprofits and startups but found that my values and interests didn’t quite align with the work I was doing. In August of 2020, I decided to make the leap to full-time freelance work.

As a mission-driven freelancer, I’ve had the opportunity to write for a variety of publications on everything from the effects of plastic pollution to the benefits of shade-grown coffee. As a contributor for Novel Hand, I’m excited to dive deeper into the coffee industry and unearth its connections to poverty, conventional agriculture, economic stability, and the health of our shared planet.

I currently live in Nashville, but I’m from Connecticut and I’ve lived in Pennsylvania, Maine, Washington D.C., and Copenhagen. More than anything, I love visiting new places. Pre-pandemic, I spent my time traveling to Peru, Chile, Iceland, and Europe. I love the feeling of stepping foot in a new city for the first time, not knowing exactly what lies ahead in a day of exploration.

Post-pandemic, I’m excited to travel again and get more involved in the Nashville community. I love Crema coffee and bringing my rescue pup to Percy Warner Park. I’m always reading a new book, going for a run, or checking out a plant-based restaurant.

I’m excited to work with Novel Hand and I’m energized by the work of my fellow contributors. So much of my academic background wasn’t rooted in taking action, so I am eager to deliver pieces that instill in readers a sense of agency and urgency to make valuable changes.
